Elie Saab Spring 2011 Haute Couture

I've said it once, I'll say it again: Elie Saab is my go to fairytale dream princess dress designer.
The amount of detail, the succulent colours, the laces, embroideries, chiffons, silks....all knock me into a beauty coma.

Dresses Over Jeans....What Would Coco Do?

Chanel Haute Couture was beautiful airy fairy light this season.

However I do have one little gripe with Mr. Lagerfeld. Dresses over jeans at Haute Couture Fashion Week, really?

Don't get me wrong, it does kind of work on the runway, but wasn't this trend bad enough the first time around?

 

 

All bashing aside, the rest of the collection had a wonderful youthness and wearability about it. 

Mind you, I feel like the average haute couture customer is older than 25 considering the extortianate prices, but as we all know, our society is insane about youthfulness at any age.

Christian Dior Spring 2011 Haute Couture

With the haute couture shows being the symbolic cherry on top of my fashion sundae, I couldn't resist posting.

The special aspect of this couture collection was John Galliano's inspiration for the pieces: longtime illustrator for the fashion house, Rene Gruau.

Having seen Gruau's work up close in the recent exhibition at the Somerset House, I have to say that I have rarely seen such a symbioses between fashion label and illustrator, with his drawn characters possessing such a timeless and elegant quality.

So how does this translate into a runway collection you might ask?

Galliano managed to capture the feminine beauty of Gruau's icons in form of a highly elegant feline creature in 1950s silhouettes and layer upon layer of fine fabric, bleeding into each other like soft watercolours on a canvas to form one beautiful picture.

Whenever Haute Couture Fashion Week rolls around, I realise why John is Galliano the Great.

No designer dares to go so over the top as he does and that's what J'adore Dior Couture for.

Vogue Germany January 2007

Finally I have found this editorial that has been at the back of my mind for ages because of those Balenciaga shoes. Yes, my mind has nothing better to do than to think of editorials from four years ago. No seriously, it doesn't. If laziness was chic, I would be on the cover of Vogue Paris (in theory).

The mind ponders if I could find them on eBay somewhere. Don't they look so fabulously badass?

What Makes An Editorial Pop

Okay, I will be the first to admit that I DO NOT love the clothes (styled by Lucinda Chambers) or the model (Patircia van der Vliet) of this photgraphic spread for Vogue UK shot by Mario Testino.

However the pale pastel colour palette mixed with splases of neon lime and yellow made me post these images anyway. 

It doesn't have to be the obvious elements which draw you to something, the most beautiful things in life are the little details (life philosophy of the day? Check.)
