Miles Aldrige

I love the play of colour and cartoon-like effects in Miles Aldrige's photography.

Vogue U.S. December 2010

And the last post of the day (or night) is on Steven Meisel's shoot for Vogue U.S.
Who says mohawks don't go with couture gowns?
Good ol' Grace Coddington styled Bonnie Chen, Du Juan, Hyoni Kang, Lee Hyun Yi, Lily Zhi, Liu Wen, So Young Kang and Tao Okamoto.
Loving the change of scenery. 2010 was the Polish/Russian year, let 2011 be the Asian one I say.

Winter Wonderland (I Know An Overused Title But Come On It's 3:47 A.M.)

Case in point 2 for my love of scenery, surprisingly coming from the N.Y. Times's Style Magazine Winter 2010 issue, is of Sweden’s Dalarna style by Anne Christensen and photographed by Sofia Sanchez and Mauro Mongiello.
I always wonder how photographer duo's work. Does one work the camera while the other sips a coffee? Or is it more of a I take a picture, you take a picture thing? OR....do both have cameras and snap away at the same time? Oh how the blonde brain boggles...
Anyway, my hat's off to Amanda Norgaard for braving the cold like that. Unless Rodarte's dress magically has some Uniqlo heat tech stuff installed in it (which has been semi-fascinating me for a while, but those puffa jackets ain't my style), I think little Amanda N. must have been freezing her ass off.

Canyon Country

So besides watching Buffy The Vampire Slayer and 'researching' for uni aka doing 15 minutes max and then going onto Bloglovin', I thought I might make use of the day and post a little something for your guys.
When it comes to the fashion editorial spreads (which I overdo, I know) I do love myself a nice bit of scenery instead of the boring studio shoot, although it's obvious that for financial reasons not everybody can jet off to Magapitchu.
First case in point:
Romina Lanaro by Camilla Akrans for Flair's October 2007 issue, entitled Wild Wild West (not the Will Smith kind, thank God! Oooh remember the cheesy title song and the weird get-ups? Cringe).
An oldy but goody. Although I would not advise you to go en commando horse backriding unless you are into, uhm, chafing and I imagine Miss Model ended up with sand in some weird places. But that aside, beautiful pictures.

Set In Sapphire

I am literally busy as a squirrel until Christmas (speaking of literally and someone who uses the word excessively, Rachel Zoe is pregnant how cute is that? Her child will probably have a Chanel pacifier and be carried around in a Hermes Birkin).
Just wanted to drop this little gem.

Droooool.
The ring is by De Grisogono. It is a 23.18-Carat-emerald-cut blue sapphire surrounded by 107 blue sapphires and 224 white diamonds in white gold.
So going onto my Christmas wish list (in the words of Cher Horowitz, as if!).

Fashion Week Photography

As you can tell by the title this post is long overdue. I am a very lazy blogger and in general a lazy person tsk tsk.
For an almost finished uni project, I had to do weekly straight up images. Am debating whether to post them all out of curtesy to my subjects.
Thank you to everyone for taking the time to pose for me, you look fabulous!

Opinion Piece

Considering the fact that I am a uni student, this blog is very much lacking in the writing department. So, here an opinion piece I wrote for my Fashion Media class. Enjoy.

The Birth Of The Infidelity Site =The Death Of Monogamy?
How Noel Biderman’s website threatens to strike being faithful out of the marriage equation

I am a very liberal person, except when it comes to one thing: marital cheating. Call me old-fashioned and naive, but I actually like the idea of committing to someone and knowing that they will commit to me.

Imagine my disgust when flicking through my Evening Standard two weeks ago. Why Cheating Is Better Than Divorce was staring back at me as the title of an article about the UK’s largest infidelity site launching soon. You might as well all throw your wedding ring in the loo if Noel Biderman, the creator of the online cheating platform Ashley Madison, has his way. The website gains a new member every 11 seconds. Faster affair finding with less  guilt. What has the ideal of marital trust coming to I wonder.

Biderman, who proclaims that “monogamy is dead”, calls affairs “a wake up call” for married couples. I call it burning bridges built up over the years. If you need an affair to prove the importance of a significant other in your life, then maybe you should rethink the relationship in general. A decade ago, online affairs already accounted for one third of all marriage annulments, when the Internet was only a fraction as involved in our daily lives as it is today.

Divorce rates may be at an all time low in the UK with 11.5 per 1000 people divorcing, but this is due to the financial woes and fewer numbers of people getting married rather than effective marital problem solving. In an increasing world of pre-nuptial contracts and with the average divorce costing £13 000, it’s no wonder that people are hesitant to walk down the aisle or free their ties from an unsatisfying marriage.

Sigmund Freud’s theory that repression of the sexual instinct is detrimental to one’s psychological well-being could justify looking for your thrills elsewhere when your spouse isn’t packing the punch and experts say our generation is having increasing difficulties with staying faithful due to the habit of having multiple sex partners before marriage. Howeverm anthropologists argue that even though our ancestors were mostly polyamorous, long-term monogamy is difficult, but not impossible.

I will admit that the m-word’s future isn’t exactly rosy, with statistics showing that 30 to 60 percent of married individuals will engage in infidelity at some point during their marriage, but that doesn’t mean we should encourage it. I am not denying that every human has faults, and that affairs don’t happen, but if you are wired in a polyamorous way, why not be in an open relationship instead? It makes no sense to try and fit yourself into the constraints of marriage. You can’t have your wedding cake and eat it too.

Noel Biderman may say that “it’s 2010, time to redefine morality.” But a website with the slogan “Life is short. Have an affair” isn’t redefining our morals, it’s destroying them. Life is short, so don’t stay in a marriage that doesn’t have a solution to its problem or that is suffocating you. Just remember that that ring is a symbol of commitment. Honour it or get out. But don’t play both sides of the field.

A Head Full Of Lavender And Green

Perpetually bored with my non-dyed and shoulder length hair (zzzzz...growing out short hair, although after seeing Rosemary's Baby I really want to chop it off again), late night study sessions lead to a purple light bulb going off in my head.
Perhaps it's some delayed form of wannabe teenage rebellion, but I am craving some wildly coloured locks.

This Proenza Schouler hair in my favourite show by the label so far

+ Lady Gaga rocking this look (I know Lady Gaga overkill at the moment everywhere, sorry but she is a good example for my case)...

= me wanting to purchase (and use) this:

Obviously I would have to bleach my hair and then dye it. The thought of me having the responsibility of dyeing my own hair makes me shudder, but  I was thinking of streaks, however I dunno how that would look against my brown hair (blech) which means I would need to leave this one to the professionals aka chuck my money out the window.
Thoughts on the purple head, or as my friend likes to call it the Tavi look?
I could always go with the green tips look....
